2016 Holiday Classes: Sec 4 Pure Chemistry Headstart for 2017

In this class, students examine the chemical decomposition of substances by electrolysis, characteristic properties of acids, bases and salts, and also their reactions with substances, the factors affecting the rate of reaction and also the energy changes during a reaction. Students will also examine the periodic trends and group properties of metals, their properties, reactivity and uses

This course is designed to help pupils to get ready for their O Level Chemistry for next year — 2017. The teacher will explain the concepts and the students will work through comprehensive worksheets.

Course duration: 4 days (3:30 hr with 15 minutes break)

In this section, the idea of atoms and chemical bonding being the most important fundamental concept in Chemistry is introduced. The knowledge of atomic structure opens the door for students to understand the world of chemical reactions. Students are also introduced to the use of models and theories in the study of the structures of atoms, molecules and ions, and the bonding in elements and compounds. Practice in chemical formulae and balancing equations will get the student ready for the fundamentals of stoichiometry in the later part of the year.

This course is designed to help pupils to have a strong foundation in chemistry for next year — 2017. The teacher will explain the concepts and the students will work through the worksheets.

Mole Concept and Stoichiometry Workshop

Mole Concept and Stoichiometry is one of the harder topics for GCE ‘O’ Levels / IB / IP Chemistry students to grasp when it is not quickly mastered at the start. The concept combines Mathematical Calculations with Chemistry theory and once that becomes clearer, it should not become a stumbling block anymore.
