Physics Booster For Sec 3 and 4

2 Jun

Below are the topics for which Sec 3 and Sec 4 students can join. Each topic will last for 3 or 4 hours per day.

Students face a big jump from secondary 2 to secondary 3 in their science topics. In school, core topics for Physics such as Kinematics, Forces and Energy are taught at the beginning of the year. Yet these topics can be more confusing than those taught later in the year.

The workshop is to address and resolve common issues faced by students. For example, students commonly face difficulty in understanding work done, potential energy and the transfers of energy. In addition, these topics are also inter-related with Kinematics and Forces. It is vital for students to get a strong foundation and not let their doubts linger.

This booster workshop is conducted topically, sign up is by topics.

Physics O Level Topics

  • Kinematics (3 hrs)
  • Forces and Turning forces (4 hrs)
  • Energy, Work done and Power (4 hrs)
  • Mass, weight and density; Pressure (3 hrs)

Classes will be small (maximum 5), conducted at the students’ pace.

3 hours : $90

4 Hours : $120

Suggested Dates:

14 June (Tue) : Start 2:00pm

15 June (Wed): Start 2:00pm

16 June (Thu) : Start 2:00pm

21 June (Tue) : Start 2:00pm

22 June (Wed) : Start 2:00pm

June Holidays 2016: Special Module for Sec 1 & 2 pupils: Clear your doubts clinic on Algebra

9 May

algebraStudents may have basic errors when manipulating their algebraic problems. Even top students who once scored A-stars and those in IP program find themselves having difficulty and making “careless” mistakes because they may have some mistaken ideas or mis-conceptions. Unable to do difficult problems may be due to inability to handle simple manipulations. For those students aiming to take additional mathematics in Sec 3 & 4, it is highly essential to clear your doubts at the earliest.

This is a coaching class suitable for Sec 1 and 2.

The course is for those who need a stronger foundation and for those who want even higher level of proficiency.

Please show us your test papers for an assessment.

Topics

(1) Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of Negative Numbers;

(2) Addition and subtraction of Algebraic expressions;

(3) Multiplication and division of Algebraic expressions;

(4) Simplifying Algebraic fractions;

(5)Expansion of Algebraic Expressions;

(5) Factorizing Algebraic expressions;

(7) Solving linear and fractional Algebraic equations;

(8) Changing the subject of a formula;

(9) Solving simultaneous linear equations,

Below are Optional (on request for Day 4)

(10) Indices

(11) Solving Quadratic Equations by Factorisation, Completing the Square, and Quadratic Formula.

Secondary Maths Classes in June

2 Jun

We are opening maths revision sessions (and hopefully science…) this June holidays. Per session will be based on particular topics in the secondary maths syllabus with a seat capacity of only 3 or 4 (min. 2 pupils to start a session).  You may expect selected question analysis, concept elaboration and application in each session.  Sec 4s can expect topical questions selected from prelim papers (it’s just 1-2 months before prelims).  Do sign up early by arranging registration and payment with us before the sessions are occupied!  A session of the same topic may be opened for sign up on another day in June (subjected to our tutors’ lesson schedule).  For payment and registration, kindly send your enquiry to admin@matharena.com.sg and upon confirmation and verification through payment procedure, we will register for you and you can just come for the session(s) on the date(s) assigned.

Disclaimer: Below is the schedule of the revision session (accurate as at May 26).  There will be updates every weekend so do save this link onto your phone (or any tech device) to keep up with the updates.

PSLE A* Achievers

This June, P6 pupils will work on mock papers that comprise of both short and long questions. This is a good time for all pupils to go through a comprehensive revision before the preliminary exams.

As usual, trainer’s explanation of difficult concepts in class is key to helping pupils clarify doubts and misconceptions so pupils are strongly encouraged to ask questions in class.

Practice is the other key ingredient for success in PSLE Math. Hence we are going to have an intensive program that has systematic coverage of PSLE math topics, emphasizes on higher order challenging problems and where pupils’ presentation of solutions will be fine-tuned.

Its almost the last stretch, boys and girls…..let’s stay focused and push on!

P4  & P5 FUSION MATH TRAINING FOR NMOS

The Preliminary Round of the National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore is on 1st July 2015, Wednesday. Top scorers will be invited to the Special Round on 28th July 2015, Tuesday.

We continue our intensive training to help P4 and P5 pupils in their preparation for the coming NMOS competition. Knowledge, understanding and skills will be built up through active teaching and learning in class.

Working on mock papers will also give pupils more exposure to the topics and questions most relevant to the competition.

P5 Problem Solving Heuristics

Primary 5 is a crucial period of learning for pupils as they head towards their PSLE next year. As essential skills are taught, pupils build up a stronger foundation and their ability and confidence soar.

We see this in pupils who started their P5 year with us, soaring ahead in their P6 year. We are happy for them, especially those who initially came in with low marks and lacked confidence.

As always, trainers will explain strategies in class but pupils’ attentiveness and diligence in practice is still key to their achievements. Time to work hard, boys and girls!
