Questions from Si Jie

Dear Si Jie,

here are the questions your mum emailed us,

1) John uses 2 hoses to fill an empty inflatable pool with water. The first hose can fill up the pool in 3 hours. The second hose can fill up the pool in 2 hours. After an hour, a hole appeared at the bottom of the pool which could drain it in an hour. How long did it take to drain the pool completely?

2) A stream of water flows into John’s pond at a constant rate. John wanted to drain his pond so that he can remove the pebbles at the bottom of the pond. If he uses 3 pumps, he will need 3 hours to drain the pond. If he uses 2 pumps, he will need 6 hours to drain the pond. How many pumps would he need to drain the pond in 2 hours?
